Alice Lesnick

Alice Lesnick is Term Professor of Education and Chair, Bryn Mawr/Haverford Education Department; Associate Dean for Global Engagement; and Co-Director of Lagim Tehi Tuma, an organization based in Dalun, Ghana, and dedicated to re-imagining education centered by Black study and liberation. Alice has created and taught a wide range of courses in the Education Department, including Community Learning Collaborative (Education 200) in concert with staff colleague Margo Schall and a group of school- and community-based educators. A 2021 recipient of the McPherson Award for Excellence in Teaching and Service to the Community, Alice recently completed co-writing a mentoring guide, Believing Each Other, with five Bryn Mawr College alum. Her current research examines and amplifies the practice wisdom of people who sustain growth-serving work in situations of enduring challenge. Alice co-convenes the Workplace Advisors Program for conflict resolution at the College and serves as founding member of CARLA – the coalition for anti-racist literacy at Bryn Mawr. As a former K-12 teacher, current teacher educator, and longtime faculty associate of the Institute for Writing and Thinking, Alice works with her own students as well as with schools to guide educators to use writing and other modalities to creating communities of learning, build knowledge, and foster students' empowerment.
